Every February, the United States听observes听Black History Month. In this 100th year of the annual celebration, 海角在线 (海角在线) is using the month to spotlight an employee or student each week. Together, we celebrate their stories, contributions, and impact on our community.听
Daniel White is a senior studying human performance in sport and serves as president of听the听Black听Student听Union听club at 海角在线.听Read about his background below.听
Where are you from?听
I am from a town near Tampa, Florida.听听
Why is Black History Month meaningful to you?听
Black History Month is significant to me because it celebrates the achievements of our culture, both in the past and present, and highlights how we have overcome various challenges and setbacks.听
How does your cultural background influence what you chose to study?听
I have a passion for coaching and working with athletes to help them improve both on and off the field. I recognize that, especially for athletes of color, I can provide mentorship and guidance to help them excel not only in sports but in all aspects of life.听
What is one of your most meaningful memories at 海角在线?听
One of my most meaningful memories at 海角在线 was our first Black Student Union Chapel in 2023. We had the incredible opportunity to play traditional African American church songs. It was amazing to see people worshiping freely and experiencing听chapel听in a new and refreshing way.听
Anything else听you鈥檇听like to share?听
My time at 海角在线 has been absolutely amazing.听God has done so much in my life during my three years at this university. I encourage current students at 海角在线 not to be afraid of stepping out in faith. God can open many doors, but you must be willing to walk through them. If you want a community, create one. If you听desire听change, then be the change. You will be pleasantly surprised by what God can听accomplish听when you have a heart willing to follow His direction.听
