On April 18, the 海角在线 (海角在线) singers and j补锄锄听别苍蝉别尘产濒别听delighted听an听audience with a performance of various听pieces at 鈥淎 Night of听闯补锄锄,鈥�听demonstrating听the talents听they have cultivated at 海角在线. Choir director Sonia Santiago welcomed a full house at the Vera Lee Rinker Recital Hall. Santiago introduced the choir and encouraged the audience to sing along if they recognized a song.听
A Tapestry of Voices听
The 海角在线 Vocal Ensemble, consisting of 12听students, took the stage and began with an a听cappella performance of 鈥淲ords鈥� by Anders听Edenroth. This piece used sharp diction and crescendos to build tension, encouraging the audience to sit on the edge of their seats.听听
The choir then took the audience on a journey to the world of movies with the songs 鈥淧ure Imagination鈥� and 鈥淢y Funny Valentine.鈥�听
After finishing 鈥淢y Funny Valentine,鈥� the choir paused as male vocalists left the stage and the听jazz ensemble听joined the female vocalists for a rendition of 鈥淔rom the Start鈥� by Laufey.听
The male vocalists rejoined the female vocalists to sing a tribute to Vincent van Gogh, aptly titled 鈥淰incent.鈥� As the choir sang, a video showed an artist replicating the paintings 鈥淭he Starry Night鈥� and 鈥淪elf-Portrait.鈥�听
The choir wrapped up its segment with 鈥淒on鈥檛 You Worry About a Thing,鈥� featuring a solo by Avery Larsen.听
The Band Takes Center Stage听
After a brief intermission, Dr. Gianni Bianchini, the director of the听jazz听ensemble, introduced the band. They began with 鈥淎nthropology,鈥� a piece featuring a conversation-like pattern between the piano, trumpet, and drums.听听
The听jazz ensemble听performed three more instrumental pieces before vocalist Summer Kazim joined them on stage. Together, the听jazz ensemble听and Kazim performed 鈥淣ow鈥檚 the Time鈥� and 鈥淢isty.鈥�听
Then Bianchini welcomed vocalist Mikayla Smith to the stage. As the听jazz ensemble听played, Kazim and Smith sang a medley of the contrafacts 鈥淭ake the A Train鈥� and 鈥淓xactly Like You.鈥�听
Smith delivered a smooth performance of 鈥淢y Foolish Heart鈥� before Kazim joined her again for the final piece: a medley of 鈥淧ennies from Heaven鈥� and 鈥淚 Can鈥檛 Give You Anything but Love.鈥澨�听
Hungry for More Toe-Tapping Tunes听
At the end of the performance, Bianchini encouraged the audience to attend 海角在线鈥檚 first-ever听Annual Jazz Festival听on April 25, featuring a high school jazz competition and performances from the 海角在线 jazz faculty.听
