Anabel Ellison: Student Athlete Highlight

Anabel Ellison

As a nursing major and student-athlete, Anabel Ellison must balance the demands of school, practices, and competition. It is a delicate balance that takes discipline and resilience.

1. What has been the most defining moment in your athletic career so far, and how did it shape you as a person?

The most deï¬پning moment of my athletic career so far has been being able to play my sport at such a high level for so many years. While at ؛£½اشعدك, I made the All-Conference Defensive team during the 2024-2025 season. These experiences allowed me to grow in areas of discipline, grit, and focus, both on and off the court.

2. How do you balance the demands of academics, training, and personal life without burning out?

To avoid burn out, I make sure to stay as organized as I can throughout each semester. I make sure to map out each week as detailed as I can with both academic and athletic responsibilities. I also have a great support system who is just a call away who is constantly cheering me on.

3. What’s one challenge you’ve faced in your sport that taught you a valuable life lesson?

Two years ago, I faced a season-ending injury and had to undergo knee reconstructive surgery. I had to dedicate the next 9 months to physical therapy to relearn how to use my knee again. Not only did this time teach me valuable lessons of patience and resilience, but the sport also showed me that my body is my biggest investment. God only gives you one body, and having a healthy body is so important no matter how much physical therapy it takes!

4. What motivated you to want to choose nursing at ؛£½اشعدك?

I have always felt such a strong calling for nursing, as I love to care for and help people in any way that I can. The previous universities I attended did not offer nursing programs. As soon as I transferred to ؛£½اشعدك my senior year, I changed my major to nursing. Even though I was close to graduating with a different degree, I felt drawn to change because I knew nursing is where I am meant to be.

5. How do you hope your time as a student athlete will influence your future beyond sports?

My time as a student-athlete has been the most fun, busy, and memorable time of my life. It has taught me endless lessons that I know are going to shape me into a great nurse. Being a student-athlete has allowed me to grow my skills in time management, teamwork, leadership, communication, and mental toughness that I am conï¬پdent will be so beneficial in my career as a nurse.

Faith Journey

Transferring to ؛£½اشعدك has helped me grow in my faith in so many meaningful ways. Being in a Christian community and learning more about God encouraged me to take my faith more seriously. After just two semesters, in August 2024, I was baptized in my hometown as a reflection of how much my faith had grown during that time.
