Interprofessional Educational Session
During a recent Interprofessional Education session, undergraduate nursing students in the Medical-Surgical Nursing II and Community Nursing courses had the opportunity to network with students from the Gregory School of Pharmacy and Physician Associate students from the School of Health Professions.
During the session, students worked collaboratively to achieve the following objectives:
- Recognize common barriers to effective communication in health care settings and devise strategies for overcoming such barriers.
- Discuss communication tools and techniques to enhance team function, well-being, and health outcomes.
- Demonstrate the use of the evidence-based communication tool Situation-Background-Assessment-Recommendation (SBAR) to enhance communication within a team given a simulated patient case.
- Demonstrate how to effectively manage conflicts in roles, goals, and actions that arise among health care professionals and patients using the evidence-based tool DESC script as a conflict management strategy.
