When Joan Hoxter, 53, earned her bachelor鈥檚 degree in organizational leadership, she opened up new career opportunities and achieved a longtime goal.
Hoxter previously enrolled in the University after high school but accepted a position at a telecommunications company before finishing her degree. After various other pursuits, she became a substitute teacher and discovered a passion for working with middle school students. She set her sights on earning her degree and getting a teaching certificate.
Joe Sharp, the University鈥檚 director of graduate, online and evening admissions, suggested Hoxter consult Complete Florida. The program helps residents with some college or training complete their degrees online with the help of academic coaches and scholarships.
The University offers bachelor of arts in ministry, bachelor of science in organizational leadership and bachelor of science in psychology degrees in partnership with Complete Florida.
Complete Florida Coach Bridget Busby reviewed Hoxter鈥檚 transcripts and told her that re-enrolling at 海角在线 was the fastest way to graduate.
鈥淎t first it seemed like Complete Florida was too good to be true,鈥� Hoxter said. 鈥淔ree coaching and the possibility of a scholarship? I mean how could this be?鈥�
Hoxter was nervous, but she had a cheerleader in her 海角在线 adviser, who broke down exactly what she needed to do. Plus, she knew she had the work ethic to succeed. Shortly after Hoxter graduated in August, she passed the subject area exam to teach middle grade social sciences.
鈥淚 am very grateful for the guidance I received though Complete Florida and Palm Beach Atlantic,鈥� Hoxter said. 鈥淏ecause of it, I am able to continue in the classroom, where I can make a difference and impact kids鈥� lives. I will have classroom experience, and who knows what the future holds? Now I will have so many options.鈥�
