Brooks is professor of the practice of public leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School and the Arthur C. Patterson faculty fellow at the Harvard Business School. Before joining the Harvard faculty in July, he served for 10 years as president of AEI, a leading think tank.
Brooks has written 11 books, including the national bestsellers聽聽(2019), 鈥淭he Conservative Heart鈥� (2015) and 鈥淭he Road to Freedom鈥� (2012). He also has published dozens of academic journal articles and the textbook 鈥淪ocial Entrepreneurship鈥� (2008). He is a columnist for the聽Washington Post, host of the podcast聽鈥淭he Arthur Brooks Show鈥� and subject of the 2019 documentary film 鈥淭he Pursuit,鈥� which is available on Netflix. He gives more than 100 speeches per year around the United States, Europe and Asia.
Previously, Brooks was the Louis A. Bantle chair in business and government policy at Syracuse University, where he taught economics and social entrepreneurship. Prior to his work in academia and public policy, he spent 12 years as a professional French hornist in the United States and Spain.
Brooks holds a doctorate and a Master of Philosophy in policy analysis from the Frederick S. Pardee RAND Graduate School. He also holds a Master of Arts in economics from Florida Atlantic University and a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Thomas Edison State College.
