The Legacy of Bebe Warren
The Bebe Warren Scholars Program honors the life and legacy of Bebe Warren, a dedicated educator and the wife of º£½ÇÔÚÏß’s founding chairman, Dr. Donald E. Warren. Throughout her life, Mrs. Warren was passionate about supporting future teachers and encouraging students pursuing careers in elementary education.
In 2001, Dr. Donald E. Warren established the Bebe Warren Scholarship Fund in partnership with the Theodore R. and Vivian M. Johnson Foundation. Each year, Mrs. Warren personally connected with scholarship recipients and encouraged them during their student teaching experiences. Having spent years as an educator herself, she understood both the rewards and challenges of preparing for a teaching career while balancing academic responsibilities.
A graduate of Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Mrs. Warren taught elementary school in Anderson, Winston-Salem, and Durham, North Carolina, before leading a preschool teaching lab at Duke University during the 1950s. She later devoted her time to family, volunteer service, and educational involvement within her community, including serving through the PTA at Northboro Elementary School.
Following Mrs. Warren’s passing in 2018, gifts from the Warren estate along with contributions from friends and family expanded the scholarship endowment. Today, the program continues her commitment to supporting aspiring elementary educators and creating opportunities for future teachers at º£½ÇÔÚÏß.
