Biography
Dr. Alexander K. Rothe is a music and liberal arts professor with over ten years of experience teaching students at the university and high school levels. Previously he was a Core Lecturer at Columbia University, where he earned his Ph.D. in Historical Musicology in 2015. He specializes in music performance studies, music cognition, and the humanities. His appreciative approach emphasizes holistic student development and experiential education opportunities.
Dr. Rothe served as a Lecturer of Musicology at Northern Arizona University (2019-20), Core Lecturer at Columbia University (2016-19), and a Graduate Instructor at Columbia University (2009-14). His research has been published in The Musical Quarterly and Current Musicology. He gave recent conference presentations at the American Musicological Society 2021 Online Meeting, the German Studies Association Annual Conference in Portland in 2019, the inaugural symposium 鈥淵OST: Y/Why Opera/Studies Today鈥� at Yale University in 2019, the international symposium 鈥淏auhaus Beyond Borders: Exploring the Legacy in the 21st Century鈥� at Northwestern University in 2019, and the 2019 Ring Seminar 鈥淣ew Insights into Wagner鈥檚 Ring Cycle鈥� for the Wagner Society of New York. Dr. Rothe received research grants from the Fulbright Program and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). As an undergraduate at Northwestern University, he completed the five-year dual degree program, receiving a B.A. with honors in German and a B.M. with honors in Music Cognition.
