Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford calls on 海角在线 students to start making a difference in their communities. Speaking in the Lassiter Rotunda of the Warren Library on September 9, 2013, as part of the University鈥檚 LeMieux Center for Public Policy speaker series, he emphasized, “I believe that young people today have a responsibility to engage in government. You don鈥檛 have to be elected to office to be a public servant.”
During the event, Rep. Weatherford addressed a variety of pressing issues, including the economy, education, and the situation in Syria. He advocated for developing a 鈥�21st-century-based, high-standards education system that is second to none,鈥� while also embracing the American free enterprise system. Despite challenges such as poverty, pensions, and healthcare reform, he expressed optimism about Florida’s future, highlighting a steady increase in graduation rates and an influx of new residents at the rate of 1,000 a day.
When asked about his plans after his term in the House, the father of three shared that he prefers to keep his options open, relying on God鈥檚 guidance. He also adds, 鈥淧ublic service is the most rewarding thing I鈥檝e ever done.鈥�
